Where Can I Find Help With the Cost of My Sport in Australia?

Rhema Adelaja · National Champion & 4x DUX

Start with who the money goes to. Australian Sports Foundation grants go to clubs, schools and community groups, not to individuals. One option for athletes is the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund: ages 10 to 18, financial hardship, chosen to represent their state, territory or country.

The answer

  1. Work out what you need help with: fees, equipment, travel or competition costs.
  2. Ask your club or school first. Some funding goes to clubs, so ask whether your club has applied or can.
  3. Know the difference. Australian Sports Foundation grants go to community sports clubs, schools and community groups. Rounds open and close, and the two rounds listed on its site on 2026-10-14 were closed.
  4. For individual athletes, look at the Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund. It supports athletes aged 10 to 18 who face financial hardship and are selected to represent their state, territory or country. Read its eligibility page before you apply.
  5. Keep your records together in one place: your selection notice, your club details and your costs.
  6. Ask for help early. Asking for help is not weakness.
  7. Check each official page again before you act. Rules, dates and amounts change.
