How Do I Start a Study Group With My Teammates?

Rhema Adelaja · National Champion & 4x DUX

Ask a few teammates or friends to study together. Pick a fixed place, such as an empty classroom or study lounge, and book the time in advance so it counts as homework time. Meet a few times a week, keep each other on track, and stop on time.

The answer

  1. Ask a few teammates, or friends outside your sport, to join. Asking for support is part of leadership.
  2. Pick a fixed place, such as an empty classroom or study lounge.
  3. Book the time in advance, a few times a week, as a named block like "Maths, 7:00 to 7:45", so everyone knows it is homework time.
  4. Check the practice and game calendar first so the blocks do not clash with training or travel.
  5. Keep each other on track. Review each other's homework or papers, and let older students help younger ones with hard courses.
  6. Set a hard stop. If something does not fit, decide what moves to tomorrow.
