How Do I Manage a Part-Time Job With Sport and School?

Rhema Adelaja · National Champion & 4x DUX

Build the week from what cannot move. Put school, training, competitions, work shifts and sleep into one calendar first, then fit study blocks into the gaps. Set a hard stop for homework so it does not cut into your sleep. Warn teachers, coaches and your manager early about heavy weeks.

The answer

  1. Put every fixed commitment in one calendar: classes, training, matches, travel, work shifts and meals. Colour-code school, sport and work.
  2. Add sleep before you add study. Pick a fixed bedtime and work backward.
  3. Book study as named blocks, like "Maths, 7:00 to 7:45", not "when I have time".
  4. Use the small gaps: 15 to 20 minutes on the bus or before practice.
  5. Set a hard stop for homework. If something does not fit, decide what moves to tomorrow.
  6. Warn teachers, coaches and your manager early about heavy weeks.
  7. Schedule one thing you enjoy each week and treat it like training.
  8. Check your calendar now and then.
