How do I catch up after missing school for a competition?

Rhema Adelaja · National Champion & 4x DUX

Tell your teachers and coach before you go, then treat catching up as named blocks in your week. Put the missed work in your calendar, use the small gaps before practice, and set a hard stop. If something does not fit, decide what moves to tomorrow.

The answer

  1. Warn your teachers and coaches early about heavy weeks. Do it before you travel, not after.
  2. Put every fixed commitment in one calendar: classes, training, travel and the competition itself.
  3. Book the catch-up as named blocks, like "Science notes, 7:00 to 7:45", not "when I have time".
  4. Use the small gaps: 15 to 20 minutes on the bus or before practice.
  5. Set a hard stop for homework. If something does not fit, decide what moves to tomorrow.
  6. If the work still does not fit, go back to your teacher or coach early and say so.

Rules on missed work differ by country and by school, so check what yours allows.
